Meanwhile, across the country, preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr are in full swing, with bustling markets in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Patna. Shoppers are eagerly purchasing clothes, dry fruits, perfumes, and traditional sweets to mark the occasion. City squares and intersections have transformed into vibrant market hubs.
In Kolkata, Zakaria Street near the historic Nakhoda Mosque is packed with shoppers selecting festive essentials. Popular treats such as Lachha and Banarasi Seviyan, fried in ghee, are in high demand. Handmade local Seviyan is also a favorite, while perfume shops are drawing large crowds with their collection of imported Itra and Attar fragrances. Dates and dry fruits, especially those sourced from Saudi Arabia, are selling rapidly.
Similarly, Hyderabad’s markets near Charminar are decked out for Eid, with visuals showing enthusiastic buyers selecting clothes, jewelry, sweets, and other traditional items. Patna is witnessing a similar festive buzz, as locals flock to markets to prepare for the grand celebration.
On the eve of Eid, President Droupadi Murmu extended heartfelt greetings to citizens in India and abroad. “On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all Indians, especially to our Muslim brothers and sisters,” she said.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also conveyed his wishes, highlighting the significance of cultural unity and mutual respect. “Eid reminds us of the strength we draw from our cultural diversity and the common bonds that unite us. The essence of this holy day transcends mere celebration; it embodies the constitutional ideals of unity, compassion, and mutual respect that form the cornerstone of our diverse democracy,” he stated.
